“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Genesis 3:4-6 NIV

In verse 4, the serpent takes his game plan to another level. He now realized that the woman was grounded in instructions. So he decided to persuade the woman to disobey these instructions. He first began by negating God’s word…You will NOT certainly die…then he goes on to justify his case..for God knows that if you eat from this tree, your eyes will be open… The serpent was using logic to draw man to his side. Logically, why would God create fruit trees for man to enjoy but only one not to feed from? Logically, there must have been something God was trying to ‘hide’… What was He trying to hide according to the serpent? The knowledge of good and evil… But was God trying to ‘hide’ anything? Indeed even in chapter 1 vs 8, this tree had been described as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The serpent still was continuing his ploy of twisting the truth and making it appear more justifiable and logical to eat from this tree than not to. In fact, when the woman beheld the fruits on the tree, they looked …pleasing to the eye and desirable. It made all sense to eat than not to. So much sense that she convinced the man to eat also! The power of logic and reason is a gift from God to man. Infact we see God allowing man to exercise it while naming and managing the creatures He had created. However, faith in God gets to a level where it can’t be justified logically. It cannot be reasoned out. It only takes submission and obedience. It only takes submission to Jehovah Rappha as our healer even when all indications show that our sickness is progressing; it takes submission to Jehovah Jireh as our provider even when jobs are elusive and business is not forthcoming in a slumpy economy. When God issues us with instructions, He expects us to obey. Yes, we might have room to apply reason however, whether we fully understand the why’s and the wherefores or not, God’s instructions to man must invoke a heart of obedience. This is because He’s omniscient, the all knowing God. We only need to obey and in the course of our faith walk with Him, He’ll gradually reveal to us all things according to His perfect will. However when we deliberately choose to disobey God by following contrary voices, we engage in rebellion. Here Satan the author of rebellion was courting man into his fold. He was successfully leading man to disobey God and rebel against His instructions. This same God who had breathed life in to man was now playing second fiddle to the author of sin, Satan. Man was being baited and soon would be trapped in a prison called the sinful nature. His fellowship with God would be severed. Disobedience to God would lead to the ultimate fall of man!
