So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

After the fall came banishment. God sent man away from the garden of Eden. Remember, the garden had been created to host man. It was God’s design and plan to put man there. It was a place conducive enough to give man a comfortable life as he served God. However, after judgement, man was chased from the garden. He was left to roam the rest of the earth with the other creatures. He was now supposed to till the land and work on it with toil and punishing labor. Only then would it produce. But man was also prevented from accessing the tree of life. An angel was placed on the east side of the garden to block him from the access. The fall resulted into a separation. This is the state we fall into when we are born. We are born with our hearts separate from God. The original sin alienates us from God. Even if we try to gain access to the Father, we won’t manage because our state is wanting before Him. However, He’s the God of redemption. Just as we fell, He’s willing to cleanse us only if we repent and accept the gift of forgiveness from His Son, Jesus Christ.
