Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Cain was the first born son of Adam and Eve. After seeing his brothers offering being accepted by God and his not, he got offended. It’s important to note that before a harmful deed against a brother or a sister, comes offence. To be offended or not is a choice we have to make every day of our lives. We shall always come across people who shall sound or come across to us as offensive. They may just be going about with their lives the way they know best but end up touching a raw nerve in us throwing us into the tailspin of offence. What other people do or don’t do is between them and their God. However, how we react to them will define our standing before our God. If we see others succeed, instead of frowning at their progress, we must rejoice with them as we introspectively look at ourselves. God calls Cain to introspection,’…if you do what is right, will you not be accepted?’ In the same way, we must desire to look into ourselves to see what God’s will for us is. This is the consideration He’s making to us…to look into ourselves and seek to mend ways with Him.
