This is the written account of Adam’s family line. When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created. When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

Chapter 5 starts with a recap of the creation story. But it does not just focus generally on creation. It zeroes in on the man Adam. It reminds us of our heritage. We are all descended from Adam. We see that Adam lived a total of 930 years on earth. However, something amazing is worth to note. His bible-focussed bloodline is not propagated through Cain but through Seth. This is a message God has for us. Sin separates us from Him. However we still have the opportunity to be restored back to Him. If we continue to harden our hearts, we risk being cut off from His plan and He can use others to fulfill His will. We can learn this from the life of Cain. We can also note that Adam and Eve also had other sons and daughters besides Seth.
