You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.” Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

God instructed Noah to take with him male and female of every species. He also told him to keep reserves of the food they would use during the time of the Flood. The drive for environmental conservation did not start with environmental enthusiasts. God is the creator of all. He is also able to sustain and protect all. When God created man, He instructed him to manage His creation. Here, in a nutshell, He was teaching him how. All species of flora and fauna have been created by God. Ours is to ensure that we create a conducive environment for all to thrive. We don’t need to compete with them. Remember we are above them in the pecking order. We are required to manage and give them a liveable environment. In most human- wildlife conflicts man is usually the culprit. I remember when lions left the Nairobi national park and ventured into the city in 2016. We saw them as intruders. However in real sense, we actually are the intruders. Breeding and migration zones in the park have been possessed by our greed. These animals have no space to live their lives. This case is replayed in many scenarios around the world. We are using the authority God has granted us over animals to deprive them of what was granted to them by their Creator…the right to exist. Here, even after God had vowed to destroy man, He decided not only to save the life of one righteous man, Noah, but also save representatives of each species among the animals. The Earth is not complete without completeness in His creation. We are stewards. God is calling us to be faithful stewards of His creation.
