But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.

God remembered Noah…quite a powerful statement. Does it mean He had forgotten all about him? Certainly not! He was always in His mind. God’s remembrance of Noah was a continuous act. In the midst of judging sin, He was still in the act of remembering those He’s showing mercy to. God is a God of judgement. But He’s also a God who shows mercy. He remembers the righteous in the midst of destruction. Isn’t it the same even today? In the midst of destruction and turmoil God remembers His people. The people who’ve remained true to Him will not be forgotten by Him. It is said that after the floodgates were stopped and the rain subsided, it took 150 days for the waters to recede from the earth. There had been total destruction. None could have survived this deluge. But God remembered mercy on the ones He had spared.
