Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Noah built an altar and offered a sacrifice to God. The only time we have seen this before is when Cain and Abel offered sacrifices before God. He worshipped God and honored Him. This act of sacrifice moved God. It moved Him to the extent that He vowed in His heart not to destroy man and living creatures again. He acknowledged that the heart of man is sinful. That every inclination of the human heart was evil from childhood. Sin was at the centre of man’s heart from birth. This was God’s own confession. He therefore swore that He would spare the earth and would not harm man or the creatures of the earth. Seasons would come and go. He would still be faithful to His word and he would still not destroy the earth though man’s sinfulness increased.
