LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

ISHMAEL: BLESSED

And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.”
Genesis 17:20‭-‬21 NIV

This passage of scripture reminds us that the Lord hears the prayer of a parent offered on behalf of the child. Ishmael was Abraham’s son born out of wedlock. Abraham as a father desired good for his son inasmuch as he wasn’t the son of the promise. His plea before God did not change God’s mind about Ishmael. However, God heard Abraham’s prayers and blessed Ishmael’s lineage. As parents, do we take time to plead the case of our children before God? Yes, our children may be wayward; they may be children born out of wedlock; they may be tending towards bad habits. Before God, as parents, we have a big role to pray and commit them before God. God is not in short supply of blessings. He has sufficient to meet the needs of those within our expectations and those not.
