Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

DO NOT BE ANXIOUS…

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NIV

I don’t know what comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘anything’. It basically means…anything…it includes all leaving none out of the equation. This ‘anything’ is entrenched in the ‘things’ God’s warning us against…things that lower our spirits and send us into depression…things that discourage and put us down. Amidst such things, He beckons us not to be anxious but instead to commit every situation to Him accompanied with thanksgiving. When turmoil strikes, many times we’re tempted to fall into despair. At times we lose any slight hope we have because God seems too distant. But this passage dramatically chides us to do the contrary…not to ignore the challenges we’re going through but to commit them to God. Immediate answers aren’t promised. What’s promised is a ‘peace that surpasses human understanding’. A tranquil from above only brought by the presence of the Holy Spirit…a peace that made Stephen the martyr and Elijah, the prophet to stand their grounds in the midst of intense opposition to mock and desert God…a peace that enables us to be joyful when we’re pressured to sink into despair…a peace that makes us hopeful even in the midst of hopelessness…God’s peace knows no bounds. When we earnestly seek Him, He comes through for us and furnishes us with His peace. This is the God we serve.
