Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

Hope in Despair 3

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Psalms 43:5 NIV

At times life doesn’t only throw a curved ball at us but the people around us may turn against us in unexpected ways. Like the psalmist, when all odds are stacked against us, our only hope is in God. We turn our eyes to Him, Call upon Him as we wait upon Him. When others conspire against us, it seems as if God has forsaken us. But is it the case? He’s just a prayer away. In fact He’s reaching out to us. But what’s most important is our attitude towards God. Yes, challenges may beat us down. But do we choose to curse God or put our faith in Him? Job faced tough challenges in his life. So intense was his suffering that his wife incited him to ‘curse God and die’. But Job didn’t. When David returned to Ziklag in 2 Samuel, he was distressed because the Amalekites had carried off all women and children. In fact even his own men conspired to kill him. But he chose to encourage himself in God. Today, our souls may be downcast and disturbed. We may struggle to see sense in a life that seems to have turned against us. We may not have the strength to rise up again but we have the willpower to command our heart and soul to put our trust in God. God’s only a call away.
