LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

Abaddon… Apolyon

The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon. One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things.
Revelation 9:7‭-‬12 NKJV

A detailed description of these ‘locusts’ is given. Being manifestations of demons, they had a mixture of characteristics some of which were fearsome while others were alluring and enticing. Imagine a fierce creature with the teeth of a lion adorned with women’s hair…imagine a creature carrying a sting but adorned with a golden crown. Demonic influences even in our present day lives don’t deviate from this description. We are enticed and allured by the looks, the appearance (especially in this age of social media) right until we are stung or are bitten. Scripture also alludes to their leader…an entity named Abadon in Hebrew and Appolyon in Greek all words meaning the destroyer. Jesus called the Devil in the gospel of John as one who comes to steal, kill and destroy. He’s the leader of this unholy band which will be allowed by God to torment men.
