A picture of rebellion in heaven is illustrated here. The devil launched a war in heaven where he was defeated and thrown out together with the fallen angels, the demons. Michael was the archangel who brought him down in defeat. The devil is not God’s equal neither is he His opposite. He’s a creature of God. Some theologians suppose that this event actually took place after the creation of the universe in Genesis 1:1. As a result of this war, the earth became formless and void because the wicked one was cast down to earth. He became the prince of this world. He came with a vengeance to deceive and lead as many as possible astray. He the accuser was now with us accusing us before our Maker. But we overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. The devil has been defeated by death and resurrection of Christ on the cross. And because his days are numbered, he’s on an onslaught to deceive many. He has been banished from heaven but woe to the inhabitants of earth for this is his new dwelling place for a little while before judgement.
