After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

This mysterious city called Babylon represents the financial and economic center of the world. The harlot represented a false religious system while Babylon was now the epicenter of all deceit and thuggery in the name of corporate progress. A system that flourishes and enriches executives on the heads of others who are suffering. Babylon is the financial system we see today. A system that is to the benefit of the political class but which marginalizes the masses… A system that enriches a few but alienates many… But a system that is widely accepted all over the earth. A financial system driven by raw and unchecked capitalism…a sheer drive to make wealth at all costs even if it means breaking the necks of others. Babylon is a system that shall be thrown down because it defies God. It will become a dwelling place for demons, a place of evil, a place where all the wrong things take place. Isn’t it a surprise that on the flanks of the best performing economies lie areas which are given to all sorts of promiscuity… Las Vegas, lined up with casinos and world class brothels is located not so far from California, the hub of the world’s largest economy… Macau, a gambling haven is located at the footsteps of China, the world’s fastest growing economy. But as scripture says, her sins will reach sky high. Babylon will be judged by God. Though she behaves as if she’s cut out for a life of luxury… Though she claims, ‘… I’m not a widow, I’ll not see sorrow but will continue enjoying the finer things of life…’, she’ll be cut off in an instant. Great financial systems will fall down in an instant. It’s still a matter of debate whether the seat of the world’s finance will be the literal Babylon or the traditional London and New York, but what’s given is financial systems designed by man will tumble and fall. Though they may look invincible and able to weather the storm, God will rise up against them and suddenly they will be no more.
