“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:12-17 NKJV

Christ identifies Himself… The alpha and omega, beginning and the end, the first and the last. We might be tempted only to associate Him with these last days but He was there even before the beginning. He holds the dimension of time and space in His hands. He then draws a contrast between those who obey Him and those who follow sin. He draws a picture of a heavenly rest for those who obey Him. They will enter the gates of heaven and abide by the Tree of Life. They will live forever in His presence. But the disobedient and the unbelievers will be outside the gates where there’ll be weeping and gnashing of teeth. This outer darkness symbolizes hell…a place of suffering for those who reject Christ. Christ has sent His messenger, His angel. He’s a messenger who’s work is to testify to the churches. Today, we have the benefit of this message through scripture. Scripture reminds us that Christ is coming soon. It reminds us to turn towards Him. But ultimately the choice is ours. Whoever desires to drink of the living waters will never thirst. But whoever doesn’t, will suffer the consequences.
