For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

We are reminded not only to take God’s word as it is but not add or subtract from it. The repurcussions of it are dire. Many times when reading, intepreting and applying the word of God, are we tempted to do what this portion warns us not to. As we handle God’s word, at the back of our minds there must be an etched fear in Him. God’s word is not to be mishandled and disrespected. It’s to be used wisely and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The one who testifies in accordance to God’s word shall be deemed favored.
