As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!” “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

Magnificence will one day come tumbling down. Nothing will outlast God. Everything will be brought down. But here, Christ was talking about the temple. In other Scriptures, He referred to the destruction of the temple and its rebuilding in three days. He was referring to Himself and the path He was going to take towards calvary. Christ’s was preparing His disciples for His ultimate death on the cross. This is the reason why He came to earth. To redeem men through the cross.
