When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark.
Acts 12:25 NIV

Barnabas was a man given to lift others. John Mark was his nephew and he deliberately chose to encourage him in God’s work. Remember that he had gone to seek after Saul and went with him to the mission ground. After returning with him, he proceeded to tag along Mark. He built people. He encouraged people. He deposited value in the lives of people. Even in the midst of such a serious persecution, he stood strong and was committed to encouraging and exhorting. We need more people like Barnabas today. People who’ll stand up and be an encouragement to those around who feel like they’ll amount to nothing. We need people who’ll not only speak life in others but bring out the best in them.
