LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

FROM ASHES TO BOILS

Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh. It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on people and animals throughout the land.” So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals. The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said to Moses. Exodus 9:8‭-‬12 NIV

The Lord manifested His greatness through the plagues in the land of Egypt. This time, He struck them with boils which festered on their skins. All along, God had touched their environment, their livestock, their water. But this time, He punished them through physical boils on their skins. Another Scripture that reminds us of a person struck with boils is in the book of Job. But the difference is that Satan afflicted Job while God was the one punishing the Egyptians. But its very important to remember that though Satan afflicted Job, he did it only through God’s approval. One was a trial while the other was punishment but the manifestation was the same. Scripture says that in the midst of all this the Lord hardened the heart of pharaoh who did not listen to Moses or Aaron. This is the sorriest state anyone can attain. Is it possible for us to be so sinful that God hardens our hearts in the process? Is it possible for us to be so disobedient before God that He gives us a heart of stone? This is a reminder to us about a life of sin. We should seek to avoid sin and instead seek to please God in all we do.
