Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

GOD’S WILL…

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon. Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord .” So the Israelites did this.

The Lord is a jealous God who shares His glory with none. Pharaoh seemed to change his mind after the release of the Israelites. Now God led them in a near circular trail in the desert in order to draw out pharaoh so that He could destroy him and his army. The Israelites were being used by God to bring glory to Him. However did these events bring joy to them? Were they on a comfortable path? No. There must have been murmurings among them…where is the Lord leading us? …why are we encamping at the shores of the Red Sea?…we’ve heard that Pharaoh is marshalling his army to pursue us…why has God brought us out here to abandon us? These are questions we also ask ourselves when in a catch 22…trapped between a rock and a hard place…possibly your business is crumbling after resigning from employment…possibly your family is falling apart as you watch…probably you’ve buried loved ones before and still have more in hospital…things don’t look good and the only place to direct your eyes is above. You can’t see the great picture because you are God’s instrument. He’s using you to accomplish His will. At times God’s will is far away from our expectations…the Israelites craved the escape. But God had a score to settle with Pharaoh and used Israel as part of the plan. In all we do, let’s seek God’s perfect will to be fulfilled. God’s perfect will might not necessarily be what we expect but it will ultimately be good for us because He sees the greater picture.
