LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

1 On the first day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt—on that very day—they came to the Desert of Sinai. 2 After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. 3 Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”
Exodus 19:1‭-‬6 NIV

God was reiterating the promise He’d made to Abraham now to the people of Israel. He was reminding them that if they keep His precepts and walk right before Him, then He would establish them as a nation of priests. God reminds us that His promises over our lives are true. However there’s a catch. We must obey God for His promises to be true in our lives. A life of sin and rebellion alienates us from God in more ways than we can imagine. In fact by disobeying God, we sabotage the plans He’s laid for us over our lives. God was reminding the people about His protection from Egypt…the way He lifted them and protected them from the pursuit of a powerful enemy. When God rescues us from powerful forces, it should serve as a reminder to us when we face challenges. We must remember that since He saved us from past challenges, He’ll deliver us from the present scourge. But as we do so, we must remember to obey Him and walk right before Him.
