Long life is a heritage of those who choose to honor their parents. In scripture we see a couple of people who honored their parents even at an old age. For example Joseph took in his father Jacob and cared for him during his old age; Moses honored Jethro, his father in law by hosting him and according him respect; David honored Saul, who though he wasn’t his biological father had sired his bosom friend, Jonathan. We are to not only honor our parents but those who can stand in their place. Simple acts of kindness play a crucial role…giving up a seat for the elderly; assisting an old man cross the road: supporting your parents financially to cater for medical costs; helping the old get groceries at such a time when their lives are threatened with infection. Being kind and respectful to those older than us places us on an advantage. We gain favor before God.
