LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

1 “Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests. 2 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor. 3 Tell all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest. 4 These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests. 5 Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.

The priestly ministry belonged to Aaron and his sons. God called them out into this noble ministry to serve His people. They were to dress differently from the rest of the Israelites. The color of their garments were unique: blue, scarlet, gold and purple. They wore unique garments different from the others: a tunic, an ephod, a sash, a turban. They were to not to only look the part but to be separated from others. God instructed Moses to separate them and commission them into this ministry. In the same way, we’re commissioned as priests as stated in the book of 1 Peter 2:9. We are a royal priesthood, a chosen people, a holy nation…chosen out of darkness into marvelous light. God today has called us out just in the same way He’s called Aaron and his sons. We’ve been draped with priestly garments that define us separately from the rest. We’re to serve God throughout our lives worshipping Him just as the priests did. We’re to intercede for others and plead their case before God just in the same way Aaron and his lineage did. For Christ, our High Priest in the Order of Melchizedek pleaded our case for redemption allowing us to be co-opted into the ministry of priesthood. Being a priest meant standing out from the crowd and leading people towards God. Today as believers, we have that responsibility.
