LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

13 “Zebulun shall dwell at the seashore; And he shall be a haven (landing place) for ships, And his flank shall be toward Sidon. 14 “Issachar is [like] a strong-boned donkey, Crouching down between the sheepfolds. 15 When he saw that the resting place was good And that the land was pleasant, He bowed his shoulder to bear [burdens], And became a servant at forced labor.

Zebulon’s prophecy talked of him dwelling along the seacoasts near Tyre and Sidon. This was the heritage of the people of Zebulun once they were allotted the promised land. They were a tribe of merchants since being close to the seashore was associated with commerce. Issachar on the other hand is prophesied to be one who would bow down and submit to forced labor. However some scholars believe that this was a pointer to the tribes scholarly understanding of times and seasons in Israel. In 1 Chronicles 12:32, as the different tribes gathered around David to pronounce him king in Hebron, its said that the sons of Issachar understood the times which seemed to act as a guide to the other tribes of Israel.
