LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

1 “This is what you are to do to consecrate them, so they may serve me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without defect. 2 And from the finest wheat flour make round loaves without yeast, thick loaves without yeast and with olive oil mixed in, and thin loaves without yeast and brushed with olive oil. 3 Put them in a basket and present them along with the bull and the two rams. 4 Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. 5 Take the garments and dress Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself and the breastpiece. Fasten the ephod on him by its skillfully woven waistband. 6 Put the turban on his head and attach the sacred emblem to the turban. 7 Take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head. 8 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics 9 and fasten caps on them. Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons. The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance. “Then you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.
Exodus 29:1‭-‬9 NIV

God highlighted a ceremony to be used to anoint Aaron and his sons as priests. A young bull, two rams, unleavened loaves and olive oil were instruments to be used. The livestock were an offering to God…a sacrifice representing cleansing. Today, Christ is our ultimate sacrifice. His death and resurrection from the cross has set us apart from a sinful world. We live in the world but are not of the world. The bread was unleavened… Without yeast. A symbol of the haste the Israelites had when escaping from Egypt. The great deliverance. The great Exodus. Egypt was a place of tribulation where God saved them and this type of bread was to function as a reminder to the people about God’s hand of deliverance in their lives. But leaven is also compared to sin in 1Corinthians 5:6-8. A little leaven causes the whole dough to rise…it says. Aaron and his sons were to be washed with water at the entrance. This was a symbolic gesture of cleansing meant to set them apart from the rest. Today, our cleansing isn’t external but internal. Christ’s blood has washed us and purified us from all sin making us fit to access the most holy place to seek God. The garments were then fitted on them and fastened skillfully to allow them to serve as priests. New priestly garments were fitted onto them signifying a new beginning…a priestly ministry unto God and for His people. 1Corinthians 5:17 states that if we are in Christ, we’re a new creation…the old is gone…the new has come…we’ve been fitted with new garments…priestly garments to enable us serve Him in His presence.
