LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

1 So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded.” 2 Then Moses summoned Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the Lord had given ability and who was willing to come and do the work. 3 They received from Moses all the offerings the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the sanctuary. And the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning. 4 So all the skilled workers who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left what they were doing 5 and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.” 6 Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, 7 because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work.
Exodus 36:1‭-‬7 NIV

I can’t help but notice that Bezalel and Oholiab were not alone. They were joined by those whom God had given skills. Workers who voluntarily chose to use their talents to serve God. We may wait for that call from God or we may just consider the skills and know-how He’s given us as a call by itself. God calls on us to use our skills in different ways as we notice needs around us. It’s up to us to step up to the challenge and be a blessing. So as Moses handed them the offerings for the construction, people kept on bringing more and more each day. So much was the giving that the artisans reached out to Moses to announce to the people to stop giving! Unbelievable! I would have understood if these gifts included the things we set aside and don’t need…the less valuable things. But the Israelites brought things that were previous to them such as gold, silver, fine linen woven by hand, bronze etc. Precious stuff which meant so much to them…former slaves who owned no property, had no land to call their own yet trusting in a God Who would lead them to their heritage. A statement of faith in God. The people gave with their whole hearts. They demonstrated a faith like no other in the things of God. They went beyond the normal and gave way above what was expected even in their need. Giving is not as a result of having excess. Its an attitude we cultivate each and everyday even with the little resources God has given us. We might not have the money but we got time…we might not have the know-how but we got the energy. We might not give financially but we can look around for those we could help find a job and point them to opportunities, we could reach out to young people and mentor them. A heart of giving never grows weary. It never tires.
