LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

1 Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high. 2 He overlaid it with pure gold, both inside and out, and made a gold molding around it. 3 He cast four gold rings for it and fastened them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. 4 Then he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. 5 And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it. 6 He made the atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. 7 Then he made two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. 8 He made one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; at the two ends he made them of one piece with the cover. 9 The cherubim had their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim faced each other, looking toward the cover.

Bezalel, the master craftsman ordained by God fashioned the ark of the covenant. That symbolic masterpiece that Israel carried wherever they went. God’s presence among His people would be pictured through the ark of the covenant. He remained with them, dwelt among them through thick and thin. He’s a God Who surely doesn’t forsake us. Today His indwelling is symbolised by His Spirit. The ark was a piece of art. Made out of an acacia frame overlayed with gold, the same way our fallible lives are rendered redeemed and precious through the blood of Christ…that precious blood of the Lamb purer than gold. Besides other assortments, the Cherubs mounted on top of the golden cover were a sight to behold. Cherubims were a symbol of God’s presence. They spread their wings, as they looked down onto the golden cover. God was making it clear to His people that He was with them. The poles were inserted through the four knobs on each bottom corner of the ark for the priests/ Levites to carry. The ark was designed to be carried by those designated by God…the Levites…servants in God’s house. Those called into ministry oftetime act as barometers pointing towards the nation’s spirituality. Pastors and ministers in God’s house play a crucial role in the spiritual health of a community. Remember Israel during the days of Eli the priest. His sons were sinful instead of pointing Israel to God. So God remained ‘silent’ and His voice was very rare as stated in 1 Samuel. The ark was to be carried by those called by God who were to live a life of righteousness.
