34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

All the construction and work was in vain if God’s presence wasn’t manifest in the tabernacle. God’s glory descended upon the tabernacle and settled there. A cloud symbolizing His presence also led the Israelites. They moved only when the cloud moved. If the cloud settled on top of the tabernacle, they stayed until it moved…a fire by night and a cloud by day. The artefacts were not as important as God’s presence among them. We might do great things for God. We might make great exploits in His name. But if His presence doesn’t accompany us then all is in vain. God’s presence is what we need day by day. We should only move when He indicates to us to move. God’s presence, His Shekinah glory is all we need.
