LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10 Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” 11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12 The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

Eutychus sat and listened to Paul as he went on and on and on… Don’t we feel the same way when in church? 😂 Paul wanted to offload everything he had now that he was leaving the next day. But seated at the window was Eutychus who was sliding into a deep slumber. Within no time, he was down and out…dead. There are some practical lessons that we learn from this scripture…don’t seat on a window at night when listening to a speaker who goes on and on and on…😂. But also, when Eutychus died, Paul cut short his sermon and urgently ministered to him. He raised him to life. As ministers of God’s word, our concern for people’s lives should go way above our desire to impress with speeches. When we speak to the masses, do we take note of those who’re not flowing with us? God is concerned with each and everyone of us individually. So should we. Each and every person God brings before us is important. We must pay close attention to them…to minister to them. If need be, we ought to stop what we are doing and attend to the needs of others first because it pleases God. Infact in verse 12, it’s stated that miracle on the life of Eutychus encouraged the masses. Who knows but probably the impact of this miracle was greater than the words Paul spoke. Reach out to people. Let’s minister to others where we can. Others will take note and be encouraged that God is interested in us individually.
