Philip the evangelist lived in Caeserea. He had 4 daughters who were virgins and prophesied. This piece of scripture bypassed me until I heard a teaching about it from Pastor Jon Courson. You see, Philip had started out as a deacon. Remember that he was one of the deacons chosen with Stephen to wait on tables earlier. Later on after persecution of the church, we see him be dispatched to minister 5o an Ethiopian eunuch and later on becoming a prolific evangelist. Yet towards the tail end of his years, he now becomes a father to daughters who are totally sold out to God. Fatherhood is the ultimate call God has given us men. Its not only applicable to biological fathers to their children but also father – figures who influence the young generation. Nurturing children who are God fearing and living long enough to see their impact on society has a great feeling of reward. Here, Philip was experiencing this feeling. Today, we have the same opportunity. As we raise our kids, do we point them towards Christ? I know, many families are far from perfect today but what is our place as parents in the spiritual lives of our children? Perhaps this thought should prompt us to be more deliberate in influencing the spiritual direction of our kids and all those who look up to us.
