LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

…agree with your enemy…

Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
Matthew 5:25‭-‬26 KJV

This is a scriptural direction about how to deal with conflict. Conflict arises when two or more have a difference of opinion. This difference of opinion can create enmity. Scripture instructs us on a Christian’s approach to resolving issues with our enemies…we must seek to agree with our adversaries as quickly as possible. Time is of essence. When conflict is left to fester for long it breeds a lot of resentment and hatred. It can’t be humanly possible to reconcile with all our enemies. Some desire harm over us irrespective of our attitude towards them. However scripture points us to the kind of adversaries we must seek to reconcile with…those we’ve genuinely wronged. Why? Because if not, we risk being thrown in jail. Are there people in our lives who we have wronged? Are we in a position to approach them and seek understanding and reconciliation? The onus is on us. To take the first step quickly to seek understanding with them. This is the scriptural way. Ultimately God shall judge justly on that Day. But here on earth, He expects us to act justly towards others.
