And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:29 KJV
This is one of the scriptures that communicates the seriousness we should guard our faith with. This faith is so precious. Previous to the extent that we should be ready to lose what is of value to us. Ready to lose what hurts. Ready to pay a cost. Faith demands that we pay a cost. Faith is not cosy. Many competing interests will seek to derail us from our faith. The clear message from Christ is for us to hold onto our faith strongly. Are there things, habits, issues, people, even our own loved ones who derail us from eternity? Our destiny is so invaluable. The reward in Heaven cannot be compared to the challenges we’ll face if we pay the cost. Are there habits we need to shed off? Is it lying? Or masturbation? Or stealing? Or bribing? Is it something, that is not bad but pulls us away from God? Is it our work? Is it our education? Is it our friends? God is a jealous God. He will not compete with anything or any one. For Him to exist in our lives, He must occupy the full space in our hearts. If something else is taking His space, it has to leave.
