Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Matthew 5:7 KJV
It’s easier for a forgiven person to show forgiveness. It’s easier for a person who’s a recipient of mercy to show mercy to others. Why? Because they’ve walked through that tough stretch and are all too aware that they’ve made it because somebody showed them mercy. The ministry of Paul, the apostle was one flavoured by his extension of mercy and grace to others. We see him pleading with brethren against sin, we see him undergoing tremendous hardships yet enduring, we see him being jailed, mistreated and even flogged yet still on the move without grudges but sharing the gospel of Christ. He had been a recipient of God’s mercy. He now was so full of it that he could dispense it to others. When we look at our lives, we ought to thank God for His mercifulness. But not only that, we ought to extend this mercy to others who are bound in challenging situations. Who are bound in sin. If I’m a recovered and redeemed drug addict, I ought to reach out mercifully to other drug addicts, if I’ve been delivered from sexual sin, I ought to reach out to those struggling in it without judging them. If I’m a delivered gambler, I ought to walk with those sinking into unhealthy debt because of gambling. Christ Himself was tempted by the devil. He therefore can show us abundant mercy because He triumphed.
