The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Matthew 6:22-23 KJV
The eye is a small organ but with phenomenal impact on our lives. It let’s us see. But we can choose what it sees. More often than not, what we choose our eyes to see impacts our lives. If we choose to entertain vain things, we lose focus and direction. However, if we focus on using our eyes to see things that are good for us, we walk in favor with God. Two kinds of sin are described in scripture: the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh. The eyes can be an entry point of sin. It happens if we entertain what is not right. Our minds might be pure only to the extent that they interact with what our eyes let in. It is therefore essential that we exercise self control over our eyes and what we allow them to see. The eyes have the capacity to entertain both light and darkness.
