Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Fulfilment of God’s will should be the goal of every committed Christian. But how do we know His will? We know it through submission. Only when we make our will subject to God, will we be able to know His will. The book of Romans tells us to ‘offer our bodies as living sacrifices…which is an acceptable act of worship…not confirming to the patterns of this world but being transformed by the renewal of our mind…(only then) will we know the good and perfect will of God (paraphrased). God’s will can only be understood when we sacrificially submit to Him. This is one of the hardest thing for any person to do…to submit to another. Yet Christ states in this prayer that we should desire God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. God’s will on earth can only be accomplished through His agents, us. Not that He can’t act on His own accord but God is a relational God who uses His people. If we submit ourselves to Him (as His people) then not only His will but His perfect will must come to pass. If we let our own selfish ambition take the place of His perfect will, then we’ll always be on a wild goose chase in relation to His will. Our submission to Him is tantamount to walking in full obedience to Him. Only then can we call upon His will on earth. As it is said in the book of 2 Chronicles 7:14 we must HUMBLE ourselves before Him, SEEK His face and TURN away from our WICKED WAYS for Him to heal our land. His will in earth can be accomplished by our turning back to Him and Him alone.
