LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

Ask and receive…

Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Matthew 7:9‭-‬11 KJV

Christ uses a common sense analogy in every day life. He tells us of an earthly father who gives his son what he asks. He compares this earthly and sinful father with our heavenly and Holy Father. How much more will He be gracious to us? This is a real question. Food for thought. Do we really trust and believe that God will answer our prayers? Christ addressed the most significant of all aspects of prayer here…attitude. As we come before God in prayer, do we sincerely believe that He can answer them? Do we have a child like faith before God or do we rationalise our expectations thinking that they might be too much for God to meet? When a child asks his or her father for something, they do so believing that they are able to give it to them. The book of Hebrews tells us that ‘he who comes to Him (God), must believe that He exists and is a rewarder to them who diligently seek Him’. Our God is a generous God. He can furnish us with gifts beyond our imagination. However, it is all dependent on our attitude as we come before Him in prayer. Do we believe that He can bless us? Do we believe that He can open doors of employment? Do we believe that He can create opportunities for us?
