Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Matthew 7:17-19 KJV
A plant produces fruit in relation to the nutrients it takes up. What do we take up in our lives? Does it help us develop Godly fruit? Does it benefit us in our spiritual lives? This scripture reminds us that good fruit is not the work of magic…its not produced through fluke or wishing away the bad and wishing self good! It is a result of a constant, daily, commited and disciplined fellowship with Christ. Just in the same way a tree which is established on fertile soil ends up producing fruit, we must draw our strength from the vine or tree we have been grafted into. John 15 talks of ourselves being grafted into the true vine, Jesus Christ. We draw virtue from Him. We draw righteousness from Him. We bear good fruit only through Him.
