When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Matthew 8:1-2 KJV
Christ’s eyes were trained onto those in need. Scripture talks of multitudes following Him. I’m sure there were many people. Some who were beckoning Him, some who were pressing on Him, some who were bothering Him. Yet what stood out for Him was this leprous man. He stood out for Him because he was in need and Christ could see it. Christ was a man of deep compassion. So He stood to attend to his need. In the midst of a tumultuous world, do we stop for some time and answer to the needs of the disadvantaged? Do we take a moment, pull ourselves away from the engagements of the moment in order to answer to the needs of the needy? We can only develop compassion on others if we choose to see their needs. There are many needy people in our midst.
