And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Matthew 8:29 KJV
The wicked one and his agents, the demons understand three things: that Christ is the Son of God; that He will come to judge; no one knows the time nor the hour when He shall come. This is what tormented the demons residing in these men. The presence of Christ elicited a response from them. They couldn’t tolerate such glory in their midst. Inasmuch as they had an inherently violent nature, they had no choice but to submit to the King of Kings and the Prince of Peace. Christ’s righteous, assertive, unassuming and godly demeanor brought them out to the surface. They were exposed. Perhaps the neighborhood thought that the men were crazy. Perhaps they thought that they had been born with a mental problem. But the Person of Christ was able to expose the evil residing within them. Evil hides. Evil never seeks to be known. Why? Because it torments best when concealed. It does maximum damage when unknown. But when it’s exposed for what it is, it has no choice but to bow down to the King of kings. The one who defeated it centuries ago. Christ our Lord. There are instances in our lives when evil tends to camouflage itself. It takes the form of the surrounding and has a grip on us like nothing else. When we try to let go and be free, the grip gets stronger. The torment gets nastier. We become the scum of the earth not because of our love for Christ but because of the place Satan and his evil agents have brought us to. However only if we allow the Person of Christ to confront this bondage shall we be free. Only if we allow God’s word to cut through the deception of sin shall we be free. Only if we allow men and women who are role models and walk hand in hand with God to speak into our lives shall we be set free. Only if we allow the Son of God to set us free so shall we be free indeed. Darkness CANNOT confound light. When Christ comes into the picture, all rottenness shall be laid bare for all to see. And deliverance shall be our portion. In Jesus name Amen.
