LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
Matthew 9:32‭-‬33 KJV

Someone once said that trouble never rains, it pours. Here came a man, escorted by his colleagues, who was not only dumb but possessed by the devil. One thing stands out starkly clear for me from this passage. The devil has only one agenda…to make it easy for us to march with him to hell. And on that road, he intends to make our lives a constant trail of misery, pain, anguish, hopelessness and oppression. He rarely let’s us free even for a moment. Any time we are enjoying rest, him and his agents are conjuring up strategies to cause pain and suffering. Indeed even scripture says that he’s like a marauding lion prowling around looking for any one to devour. So when trouble shows up, it shows up as a package. Haven’t we had instances when we just went through days where everything seemed not to work out? Aren’t there instances when we’ve lost one loved one after the other and we end up depressed and even questioning God? The strategy of the wicked one is to cause us so much pain and suffering that we end up giving up on God. Such was the state of this man. Not only did he suffer a disability, but also an imprisonment. The plan of the wicked one was to hold him captive and restrain him from enjoying life both here on earth and in Heaven. However, the Son of Man came to set the captives free as stated in the book of Isaiah. Such maybe the kind of situation we’re facing. Probably we’re not suffering from any disability or spiritual imprisonment but we’re going through hurdle after hurdle of impediment and challenge. Christ, the Son of God is present. He’s there to set us free from bondage. Bondage to situations, bondage to sin and bondage to the author of sin. Praise be to Him.
