And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, he said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
Matthew 9:23-25 KJV
Christ had power over death. He was sent to earth by God to defeat the penultimate adversery to man, death which was brought about by sin. The father of the child displayed faith. However, the majority of the mourning multitude did not. The faith of one in the midst of the faithlessness of many made the difference. Do we have faith that Christ can do what is above and beyond our imagination? Do we have faith that He can defeat sin? Do we have faith that He has power over life and death? Such is the faith we need when praying for a loved one gripped with a terminal illness like cancer…such is the faith we must have when we pray for a friend who’s in life support at the hospital…such is the faith we must have when we call on Christ to come through in our ‘dead’ situations in life. His presence makes the whole difference.
