Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:47-50 KJV
As a man who was born and raised along the coast, I sometimes marvel at what fishermen catch. When they cast their nets into the sea, what the nets capture is not altogether useful. Sometimes especially due to environmental challenges, the nets can capture trash, debris, rocks, seaweeds besides fish. It’s the responsibility of the fishermen to sort out the good catch from the bad catch. Such is what will happen in the day of judgement. Christ here in this parable tells us of the fast approaching Fishing Day, The Day of Judgement. That day, the angels, who are Gods fishermen, will cast their nets on the earth for a catch. Not all the catch however will meet the requirements. Most will not. The sea is the world we’re living in. The good catch are the righteous. The bad catch are the sinners. Today, we have a choice to make between being the good catch or the bad catch. For on that Fishing Day, we’ll all belong somewhere. My hope, prayer and trust is that we’ll all preserve ourselves to be part of the good catch.
