Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

PREPARE YOUR HEARTS

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest at any time they should see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And should understand with their heart, And should be converted, and I should heal them.
Matthew 13:13‭-‬15 KJV

God’s word speaks to us. However, for it to make a difference, our hearts have to be willing to receive it. We have to prepare a place in our hearts to receive the word of God. Just like in the parable of the sower, the hearts of men can take various forms. God’s word is constant. It can’t go forth and return void but shall accomplish the purpose God sent it for. However, the more we keep on hardening our hearts, the more the word of God seems hard to understand and less impactful. This was the truth Christ was communicating to the disciples. For the word of God to have meaning and impact in our lives, we must be ready to examine our hearts…to check ourselves to see if we are ready to receive it. Great gospel messages are more often than not preached by men and women who lack eloquence but are rich in godly action. Some great sermons are not preached by fiery pastors with good language command and diction but with unsophisticated men and women who deliver their message through the power of the Holy Spirit. What determines whether the message makes a difference is the state of our hearts. So today when you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
