Christ reveals to us the first barrier to internalizing God’s word… Lack of Understanding. Understanding the word of God is necessary to grow spiritually. Because it can transform our lives, this word is a subject of interest to entities which also claim a stake in our lives. One of those entities is the wicked one and his agents. His desire is that we have scanty or no understanding of the word of God. His intention is to scuttle any efforts to apply His word in our lives. So he uses any opportunity at his disposal to divert our interest from the word of God. He uses all trickery up his sleeve to capture our attention during quiet time and Bible study. As believers, we must ask God to help us understand the word of God. Understanding is the beginning of internalizing it. If we can’t understand the word of God, we expose it to the possibility of being stolen by the wicked one. At the end of the day we’ll not be able to claim His promises over our lives. We end up being weak Christians.
