And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; and besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
Matthew 14:34-36 KJV
Christ departs to the land of Gennesaret. We’re not told what He had gone to do there. However, the people of the area came to know about it. They heard of the arrival of the Messiah. How fame had spread across the regions. He had stood out and done great miracles. The people of this land knew that if they just let Him pass, probably, they could not have had another chance. The urgency they had as they brought out their sick and needy showed their desire to get a touch from Him. Their desperation led them to even seek to ‘touch His garment’ to experience ministry from Him. Just like the woman with the issue of blood, these people were desperate for the touch of Christ. A desperation that we need to demonstrate often in our desire for Christ’s touch. Too often do we approach God as if we also had other options at our disposal. When plans fail, we fall back to alternative plans…when a deal fails, we fall into the trap of trusting others we deem as able to pull the strings. Our desire for God has to be absolute. Our dependence on God has to be clear. Our focus on Him must be evident. When we approach Him, we must do so not because He’s a major option but the Only option.
