Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Matthew 15:12-14 KJV
Christ rebuked the rebellious attitude the Pharisees displayed. Again, they chose not to see the correction but chose to take offence at the corrector. Isn’t that familiar even in our age? Isn’t that the reason why accountability and mentor relationships struggle? Why is it so? Lack of humility. It takes humility to accept correction. It takes humility to be vulnerable. It takes humility to agree to be exposed. Christ demonstrated true humility. Being God, He chose to associate not only with man but with the lowliest of the low…the riffraff of the society. The ones rejected and frowned upon. Yet He walked with power and wisdom granted to Him only by God. Though the Pharisees knew that He spoke to their hearts, they rejected His rebuke. They chose to be wise in their own accord. Isn’t that the same when we reject Christ’s call to us? Isn’t that the same when we choose sin over right? Isn’t that the same when we overlook the good we should do? Christ is calling us to hope. But He’s also calling us to accountability. Accountability dictates that we must be open to correction and rebuke. If not, and especially if we have others persuasive enough to join us, we risk walking with blind men into a dungeon. Accountability and vulnerability calls for humility. Humble your self. For no one will do it for you!!!
