FALSE DOCTRINE

And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Matthew 16:5‭-‬12 KJV

False doctrine has the capacity to spread like yeast or leaven in dough. Here Christ warns the disciples about the doctrine of the Pharisees. A doctrine that looks godly in many ways yet is deceptive and apostate. It has the capacity to attract and has a strong grip. Its the kind of doctrine that ushers us deeper and deeper into its heart promising God yet delivering a distortion of God. It’s a legalistic kind of doctrine that gives us a list of do’s and don’ts yet it doesn’t prescribe to us the solution to this perennial human fault. In our day and age, we’re not short of Pharisee-like doctrine. The doctrine that paints others as lesser than us. A doctrine that places us as the elect of God yet others as undeserving. A doctrine that sees others as less humans than ourselves. A doctrine that paints a false picture of the nature of God, while cherry picking verses to justify its position. Christ warns us against such. God sees all of us as equal. Gods doctrine is a doctrine that is all inclusive as stated in John 3:16…For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. That WHOSOEVER believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life. Whereas the Pharisees chose to use God’s word to isolate themselves as the chosen few, God uses His word to bring WHOSOEVER closer to Him.
