Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
Matthew 18:7-9 KJV
Christ assures us that offence or sin in the world will exist. However, as believers, it’s our responsibility to keep ourselves from sin. The Holy Spirit is there to guide us into righteous living. However, He gives us direction. Ours is to obey. Obedience is a deliberate act. If we choose to obey Him, we walk in righteousness. If not, we succumb to sin. We are also reminded to note those parts of our bodies that entice us to sin. Figuratively, Christ refers to the eye, the hand and so on. However, these parts may refer to situations, habits or even our associations. Are there situations that we are in that make us vulnerable to sin? Are there habits we engage in that compromise our walk in Christ? Are there associations we partake in that do not honor God? We must identify these and separate ourselves from them to live a righteous life.
