How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
Matthew 18:12-14 KJV
Christ’s Love for mankind is explained so well in this parable of the lost sheep. The choice of action by this shepherd is out of the ordinary. Instead of him focussing on the still available sheep, he chooses to go for the one that is lost. He would have done the same if any of the remaining 99 had gone missing. This is the extent of the love of God. A love that knows no bounds but shows us affection in leaps and bounds. A love that does not forsake us but follows us through to the end. A love that seeks us where we are to draw us near to God. God saved us. His love is demonstrated this way. That while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. That while we were yet lost, Christ found us. That while we were yet wandering in the wilderness, Christ provided a way for us. Christ our good Shepherd shows us love that is beyond imagination.
