LIFE SCRIPTS

Our life's patterns transformed by God's grand story

TRUE HUMILITY

As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside and spoke to them privately, as they walked along. “Listen,” he told them, “we are going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the teachers of the Law. They will condemn him to death and then hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him, whip him, and crucify him; but three days later he will be raised to life.”
Matthew 20:17‭-‬19 GNBDC

The reality of the crucifixion was dawning on the disciples. Christ was leaving no room for guessing and assumptions. He was clearly communicating to His disciples that He had come on earth to accomplish a mission. To serve humanity. That service would culminate into His death through crucifixion and resurrection on the third day. This must have been a humbling experience for Him. His disciples knew Him as the Man in charge. The One who went to meet the multitudes and minister to them. The One who stood up against fiery teachers of the Law and Pharisees. The One who rebuked demons. The One who performed signs and wonders. Yet soon, He was going to be the One who’ll experience humiliation and revile from the same multitudes He served ultimately facing death on the cross. It must have been a disturbing picture for them to relate with. However, as the book of Philippians states, He humbled Himself to death, even death on the cross. That was His nature… A nature of humility. Not forced and false humility but true humility. A challenge to us.
