As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives. There Jesus sent two of the disciples on ahead with these instructions: “Go to the village there ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied up with her colt beside her. Untie them and bring them to me. And if anyone says anything, tell him, ‘The Master needs them’; and then he will let them go at once.”
Matthew 21:1-3 GNBDC
The prophecy about Christ’s entry into Jerusalem was about to be fulfilled. In Israelite custom, kings were ushered into the city on donkeys. We see this custom with David and Solomon. The final stage was being set on the path towards crucifixion. But His kingship needed to be symbolized. Just in the same way Solomon entered Jerusalem on a donkey, Christ would do the same to symbolize His kingship. This is a reminder to us that that is not just our Saviour and redeemer but also our King. He reigns in heaven, on earth and in the universe. We must allow Him also to reign in our hearts too.
